Why won't Mercedes-Benz honour its rust warranty on my 2003 E-Class?

My Mercedes-Benz E-Class is nearly eight years old (79,000 miles on clock) and with the numerous areas of rust appearing (top of all doors, three wheel arches, off-side front door and around the boot lock) I decided to visit the Mercedes-Benz repairer who carried out the last rust repair. After eight days I heard back that Mercedes were only willing to contribute 50 per cent towards the repair as I had used a Mercedes-Benz specialist instead of a main dealer for servicing. The quote for the remaining work comes to nearly £600 pounds. This amount of money seems an awful lot for what needs doing and there will only be 12 months guarantee on the work!

I was looking to change this car in the next 1-2 years and get the new shape E-Class estate, but am feeling a little upset by the way Mercedes-Benz seem to have moved the goal posts on their 30-year corrosion warranty. What do you suggest? How do get in touch with the relevant office of Mercedes?

There is a fair summary of the Mercedes-Benz rules regarding bodywork warranties in this thread: forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/showthread.php?t=53859
