What 4x4 with 7 seats can I get for £4000?

What 4x4 with 7 seats can I get for £4000. We are using all of our savings to upgrade our old 2003 Vauxhall Zafira. We have 4 growing children, 3-15 years old, and normally do around 10,000 miles per year. We would also like a tow bar. We're looking at the Nissan Pathfinder, Land Rover Discovery, Volvo XC90, Hyundai Santa Fe and Mitsubishi Shogun? Any advice please?

You will not get a reliable 7-seater 4x4 type vehicle for £4,000 so if you use all your savings to buy it you will not have anything left to fix it when it inevitably breaks down. Your list is composed of £30,000 - £40,000 vehicles that you expect to get for £4,000. You are expecting too much. Those on your list most likely to bankrupt you are the Discovery and XC90. You might do better by looking at a growly old Nissan Terrano II 2.7 or 3.0.
