My Chrysler Grand Voyager automatic is stuck in gear - how do I repair it?

My 1998 Chrysler Grand Voyager LE automatic seems to be stuck in a low gear, and won't change up. I was advised to get a new heavy-duty battery, as the original one went flat and wouldn't hold a charge. This could have been the problem, but it's still the same. I've been told by a friend today that it may need resetting.
