Why does my Vauxhall Zafira started losing power?

My 2002 Zafira 1.8 Elegance automatic has started losing power when being driven at a steady speed. It works well at lower speeds or in narrow country roads. At same time, the cruise control has stopped working as well. No light comes on and otherwise the car runs really well. The problem appears to have coincided with a towbar electrics repair, following a brake light fuse that blew.

Standard problem with the 1.8, often bodge-cured by removing the EGR and re-mapping the ECU.
