Why is my Vauxhall Vectra 'flat-spotting'?

My Y-reg 1.8 Vauxhall Vectra Estate has started spasmodically flat-spotting for a few seconds at a time. It then picks up again and it may not happen again for several days or weeks. It appears to happen mainly when having gone around a sharp corner or roundabout, but not exclusively. Any suggestions? Because of the intermittent nature, my garage have been unable to identify a cause.

This is a standard EGR problem with the 1.8. The bodge fix is to junk the EGR and remap the ECU.
