New car has broken down - what reccorse do we have?
Three months ago my daughter bought a second hand car. The garage assured us that it would be serviced before collection, but three months later, having now passed her test and having covered less than 300 miles in the car, it has run out.
There is no evidence of any oil leak, so I suspect that the 'service' didn't happen. Is there anything else that I could check that would support my theory? What recourse do I have against the garage?

Whether it had a service or not would have nothing to do with a severe oil consumption problem that will probably be due to failed valve stem oil seals or failed piston rings. Depending on how much you paid for the car you may have some comeback against the dealer. £500, not much. £1,000, more. £2,000 enough to reject the car for a refund: www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/consumer-rights/
