Why are my 2003 Ford Fiesta's brakes squeaking?

My 2003 Ford Fiesta has been making a high pitched noise, a squeaky rubbing noise, which happens almost constantly at various frequencies. It only stops when the brakes and clutch are applied together (not separately). The fan belt has been replaced as a possible solution, but is not the answer. Could it be a pulley or a bearing or something else? Does it sound a complicated and expensive job?

Sounds rather odd. Can you clarify that you have to apply both the brakes and clutch together? I could understand that it would stop by depressing the clutch (this indicates the clutch release bearing is worn, and would need replacing) but I cannot find a link between the brakes and clutch. If it stops when you apply just the brakes, it could be brake wear, disc problems etc, in which case I recommend that it's taken to a garage as soon as possible
