Can you recommend a reliable second family car for £6000?
My Vauxhall Astra is coming to the end of its useful life. It is the second car in the family, and is the only one insured for my children who are at university. As such it is used more as a runabout, and has picked up a fair selection of bumps and grazes over the years. My son is six feet four inches tall, so the replacement needs to have decent headroom. Appearance, go-faster stripes and performance are secondary. Safety and economy are primary. With a budget of around £6000 what would you recommend, please?

We'd suggest a Ford C-MAX with either the 1.6 TDCI or 2.0 TDCI engines. It's well-built, reliable and spacious. There are plenty of low mileage examples available in your budget.
