Buying a first car for £5k - any recommendations?

I will be buying my first car soon which will be used for city driving and occasional motorway driving. However, next year the car will be used primarily for motorway commuting to work (60 mile round commute).

What would you recommend for this scenario with reliability, low MPG and maintenance costs in mind? (Budget £5k max)

Not diesel. Small 900cc - 1,200cc petrol turbo best. If you can't afford a petrol turbo, then probably a Fiesta 1.25 is your best bet.
