Ford Fiesta cutting out?

My wife's Fiesta 1.6 Ghia (54) is cutting out while driving. The water pump and thermostat housing were replaced at the garage along with the timing belt - unfortunately they got the timing slightly out and shortly after I collected it the engine management light came on - turned out to be a bent valve. The garage replaced the valve, had the head skimmed etc and rebuilt it all. When I collected it the second time, I thought it was ever so slightly lumpy on idle but aside from that drove fine and the engine feels strong.

Any idea what is wrong with it - it may be old but its in great condition and a shame to get rid of it, on the other hand it's too old to spend too much on exploratory work (idle control valve is apparently a £300 part from Ford and no guarantee that it will fix it).

Well the symptoms are indicating the Idle control valve. But if as you say it has been checked and found ok then leave it. Did any of the garages carry out a diagnostic check at all and if so did they come up with a fault code.?

One line of thinking could be the Lambda sensor but not 100% sure.

Other than that you may just want to try using WD40 and spraying every electrical component in the engine bay including plug leads etc. May be a long shot but if there is no fault code and the fault is intermittent then it is very difficult to identify.
