2007 Honda Accord or 2008 Mazda 6?

I have £7000 to spend on a used car and have a choice of two motors to buy. I have placed a check on both cars and both are ok. Obviously I have to check the validity of the documentation, VIN numbers and general condition when I view them. The first car is a 2007 Honda Accord SE-i-CDTI (HFT) with 48,000 miles, FHSH, manual, 2 owners in black. The second car is a 2008 Mazda 6 2.0d TS (143) diesel hatchback, with 29,600 miles, FSH, manual, in silver. Which should I buy and what should I look out for?

We're not sure if this is the current shape Mazda 6 or the previous model, but if it's the latest shape then we'd opt for this over the Accord. If however, it's the previous model, the Accord was a better car and the i-CDTi engine was (and still is to a certain extent) one of the best diesels around.

If you're looking at the old Mazda6 here's what to look out for: honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/mazda/6-2002?section=bad

But if it's the newer version check here: honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/mazda/6-2008?section=bad

Is there a reason why Mazda does not manufacture the 6 in diesel automatic, as many other manufacturers do have diesel autos? This would drop the CO2 level and allow a reduced road tax.
