Which used car would you recommend in the 1.6-litre range?

I am looking to buy a used car, up to seven years old, and I'm wondering which type of car in the 1.6-litre range is quite cheap to tax and insure.

A Focus is the obvious contender. Just make sure there's no rust in the spark plug channel on the top of the engine.
