Why is my Vauxhall Vectra so noisy?

I recently bought a 2002 Vauxhall Vecta diesel. The car drives fine, but the engine is really noisy. Is this normal for this type of car?

It's a diesel and the noise might be normal. Often diesels have a sort of sound deadening mattress over them to keep the noise down and your car may have lost this. If you're worried, get it listened to by a diesel injection specialist.

Far better than previous Vectra. Now with decent handling and an excellent ride. Plenty of safety kit. Roomy in the front. Big boot. Good looks.
