Looking for a family car with 4x4 capability

We currently own a Toyota RAV4 and Audi A4. We need to sell both and get a family sized car, which has occasional 4x4 ability (prefer two-wheel drive which switches to 4x4 if needed).

We'd like a diesel for better fuel economy and need plenty of space to fit surf boards, dogs, rucksacks and four adults. What do you suggest with a budget of £10,000?

A 2006-2009 Honda CR-V 2.2iCTDI. No DPF to worry about. Part-time AWD, just like your RAV-4. 40+ mpg.

Roomy and versatile. Very comfortable, pleasant and relaxing to drive. not at all cumbersome. 2.2 i-CTDI diesel is excellent.
Bigger and now 5-door only. More luxurious but not as practical as previous RAV-4. Car-like road manners. Petrol and diesel automatics. Facelifted 2010.
