Should I import a new Toyota Corolla?

I recently drove a Toyota Corolla as a hire car in Ireland. It is was great - exactly what I would want to replace my Avensis with when the time comes, but Toyota don't sell in in the UK.

What would you advise about buying one in the Republic and running it over here? I suspect the idea is daft, but I loved the car so much that I have to ask.

Toyota sells the Avensis sized Toyota Corolla Altis 4-door saloon in other markets, notably Thailand where Corolla Altis models compose most of the Bangkok taxi fleet. But if you bring a new one over from Ireland you won't have any official warranty cover in the UK. See: www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/toyota/corolla-altis.../ and www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/toyota/corolla-altis.../ And you might also be interested in this test of the current Toyota Vios: www.honestjohn.co.uk/road-tests/toyota/toyota-vios.../
