Need a cheap and reliable hatchback for £2k
I've got a maximum of £2250 to spend and am looking at buying a used Volkswagen Golf, Audi A3 or Ford Focus. I want a car that will be reasonably cheap to run as my daily commute is only about five miles. Is there a particular model you would suggest? Also which engine should I go for for each of these cars

It's unlikely that £2250 will buy a very reliable Golf, A3 or Focus. It puts you into the Golf Mk V, and 2004-2008 Focus models and they both have bad histories. See www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar
Ford Fiesta 1.25s are better. Toyota Yaris are better. Honda Jazz are better. If you want something bigger, then maybe a Toyota Corolla or a Honda Civic.

More room and better handling than the previous version. Excellent crash test rating. 1.4 D-4D does 50mpg +.
