Which small, £1500 car for a new driver?

My 18 year old granddaughter recently passed her driving test and needs a small reliable car for daily, short distance commuting, maximum price £1,500. What can you recommend?

Toyota Yaris 1.0 or Ford Fiesta 1.25. The Fiesta is more likely to suffer rust problems. But otherwise these two seem to be the most reliable small, cheap cars.
