My new Hyundai i10 has some sort of rear brake fault - is this the known ABS brake switch defect?
I took delivery of a new Hyundai i10 in Feb 2010. Within 15 minutes of collecting the car and driving it away, I heard a squeak or squeal from the rear of the car. I returned the car to the garage who said it was the brake pads. The noise returned after a few weeks and I took the car back. I understood that Hyundai have sent a 'fix' out to all the dealers and my local garage undertook the recommended action. The noise returned again but the garage said I should contact Hyundai Customer Services. I did so and I was told that it would be investigated.
A response was left on my telephone and Hyundai said that there are no safety implications and I would be informed when there is a proper fix. I have not heard from Hyundai since - approximately mid-April. I have contacted Hyundai twice, using the email submission facility on their website, but have not had a reply. I believe that the squeak is worse in warmer weather, but it could be my imagination. Do you think that this level of customer care is satisfactory? And have you been notified of this problem by other i10 owners and if so, is this the ABS brake switch problem you mention under 'what's bad' that is causing reduced fuel economy?

Yes, this probably will be the ABS brake switch problem. Get back onto your dealer and tell him to deal with it.
