Why is my Ford making a screeching noise?

I bought a new Ford Fusion in 2011 and covered 18,000 miles to date. However, recently it has developed a screeching noise when pulling away in first gear. The noise ceases when I change into second gear and my local dealer cannot help fix the noise.

Having searched through your FAQs for someone with a similar problem, the nearest answer I could find was that it maybe the cam belt tensioner. Can you help at all?

Yes, it could be the cambelt tensioner, could be the aux belt slipping on the alternator. Get this checked before worrying about the gearbox. A clutch would not be covered under warranty. if any warranty remains, a gearbox would be.
