Replacing a 1990s Jaguar X300

I have owned my present Jaguar Sovereign (auto) from new in 1995 and it is now coming to the end of its useful life as an everyday car. I find it extremely quiet and comfortable, with magic carpet ride (it has “proper” tyres) and excellent all-round visibility.

It also has the memory option which moves the seat back and moves the steering wheel forward and upwards when the ignition key is removed. I find this invaluable for getting in and out of the car (I retired in 1996).

I now need to find a replacement and would welcome your advice. I don’t like any of the current Jaguars and all the cars I have tried seem to have exceedingly harsh ride and abysmal visibility.

They also seem to be so so bulbous and wide. I suspect that downsizing might be the best option and I have considered a very late Jaguar X Type.

Your suggestions would be most gratefully received: comfort and silence are what I seek, and no electronic hand brakes or stop/start nonsense, plus excellent lumbar support in the driving seat. Very many thanks in anticipation of your valued knowledge and experience.

You could consider the previous to current shape alloy bodied XJ, which had similar vis to your car, but you would need to be careful to find one on 17" wheels rather than 18", 19" or 20". The current XJ is wonderful, but you really need the reversing camera to reverse it.
