Buying a used X5?

I'm considering a BMW X5 used but I am unsure which model is cheapest to run (re road tax + fuel).

My main use is around town with occasional twice a year 200 mile journeys. My budget is from £5000 to £12000. I've seen 2002/3 models for £4999 but on Ebay a 2006 on 54,000miles for £6500 - so prices seem to vary a bit.

Prices always vary according to the expectations and greed of the vendors as well as the mileage and true conditions of the cars. Of course, when buying a £50k car for £5k you can expect a lot of very expensive trouble. Nothing is for nothing.
