Minimum motor trader guarantee?

What is the minimum guarantee a motor trader has to give to a customer who buys a car from them?

He is responsible for any serious fault that could have been present or starting to develop on the date of sale for six months from the date of sale. To counter this, he has to prove that it wasn't, which is usually impossible.
