Recommend a 7-seater vehicle for short journeys and occasional long trips?

We currently have a Toyota Verso 2.0 D-4D T-Spirit as a company car. It has 33,000 miles and will be four years old in November. We have been given a price of £10,550 to buy it. Would this be a good move, bearing in mind that it is a 4-year-old diesel and we are borderline as to whether a diesel is a good car for us? We do quite a few short runs but then every couple of weeks do a longer run of about 15 minutes on the motorway. We also do 2000 miles each year on the French and Spanish motorways.

My husband is facing redundancy and if this car is not suitable, what would you recommend? We need seven seats and most of these cars are very thirsty, if not diesel. We have test driven a Prius 7-seater and loved it but I think it would be out of our price range. So far we have looked at a Volkswagen Caddy which we loved but it is quite big, a KIA Carens, a Renault Grand Scenic, a Mitsubishi Outlander, a Verso and a Citroen Grand Picasso, all of which could fit our needs.

This one has a diesel particulate filter so you could be in for trouble in the future, but it has not so far been an issue on the model. Trade price for this car now, though with 43,000 miles is £8850, retail £11,000 so at £10,550 in November it will be no bargain. You're right. A Caddy Maxi Life is colossal. The Citroen Grand Picasso is up for replacement with a new Grand Picasso. I'd try to find a lower spec, slightly newer Verso 1.8i Valvematic for your money, a Ford Grand C-Max 1.6 EcoBoost, or the very good looking KIA Carens 1.6GDI.
