I want to part-exchange my Skoda Octavia for a Yeti - is this a good deal?
Asking price for 2010 Skoda Yeti 1.2 TSI Elegance DSG with SatNav, leather upholstery, spare wheel, front and rear parking sensors and park assist with a mileage of 23,000 is £14,995 from a Skoda franchise in Sussex. Part exchange offer for a 2004 Skoda Octavia 1.8T Elegance Auto Estate in good condition with 35,000 miles is £1000. The Yeti will not be available until September, when it is being part-exchanged for a new Yeti – same model and spec. At the dealer's request, I have paid a £200 refundable holding fee ensuring first refusal when the car is brought in. This model/year/spec of Yeti seems difficult to find, but does the overall deal seem a good one?

Dealers can pretty much ask what they want for a Yeti, largely thanks to Clarkson's brilliant Top Gear test video, probably the best car demonstration ever televised. But unless your Octavia is a wreck, £1000 p/x is an insult. It should be double that. (Before readers start offering £2000 for this Octavia please realise this correspondence was 8 weeks ago.)
