Is this part-exchange for my old Freelander 2 a good deal?

I have a Freelander 2 SW Special Edition with 35,000 miles on the clock. I bought it new in March 2010 for £25,770. I now am looking at a Freelander SD4 Dynamic (Plus), which is a demonstrator, registered in October 2012 with 2500 miles on the clock. They say they have reduced the price from £43,000 to £39,990, and are willing to give £21,090 for mine leaving me with a balance of £18,900 to pay. Do you think this is a good deal, or should I haggle? Is the Freelander a better bet than an Evoque, on which there are no deals?

It’s a generous offer for the old Freelander. But he is asking nearly twice as much as you paid for it for the new one. To me, that’s marketing overcoming common sense. For that kind of money I'd be looking at a BMW F25 X3 2.0d, not a Freelander. But if you're a fan, and want to support British workers, I won't try to dissuade you.

An Evoque is less practical and more fashionable, so will probably hold its value better. Note that there's not much room inside the 3-door version. The 5-door is the best compromise, and it certainly handles in a more car-like manner than the Freelander II. If you intend keeping either of these cars beyond three years, make sure to purchase an extended warranty.
