Who is responsible for a bad repair - the RAC or the garage they nominated?

I recently had to call out the RAC for a breakdown (snapped clutch cable), which could not be repaired at the roadside. As I was local to where I lived, I nominated a garage that has serviced the car for the last three years. However the RAC suggested I use one of its nominated repair outlets, which I allowed. Upon the first major journey of 40 miles, thirty six hours later I was left stranded (unable to find gear), so I had to call out the RAC again. This time I was informed that the new clutch cable had been incorrectly fitted. I wrote to the repair garage and later emailed the RAC for a response, which to date I have not received. What is your opinion of the service offered by this organisation?

It depends who you paid. You could argue that you paid your membership fee to the RAC and it put you in the hands of this incompetent garage and is therefore liable. Or, since you also paid the incompetent garage, you could sue it directly. Law here: www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/consumer-rights/
