Should I buy a Honda CR-V imported from Cyprus?
We currently run a C-Class Mercedes on lease hire and the car has to be returned shortly. We are in the market for a replacement and have about £20,000 to spend on a nearly new car. We like the new model Honda CR-V, with its large boot area for taking the golf clubs and a reasonable number of gizmos as standard. We are likely to keep the car until it (or us) peg out. We do about 12,000 miles a year.
Motorpoint is offering a new model 2.0-litre petrol auto SE for about £20,000, a massive saving of £5000-£6000 on the price of a new one from a Honda dealer. The cars are imported from Cyprus and we are told they are European made (or do they mean made for the European market?). I have queried the specification of the vehicle against the UK equivalent and this is being looked into. I am told that the warranty will be two years rather than three years (for a UK model). In Cyprus speeds are in kmh rather than mph. What are the issues that I should be raising with Motorpoint?

These CR-Vs will probably have been made in Swindon, but it’s still worth checking. There's another dealer who has been selling CR-Vs independently for years: www.bobgerard.co.uk, but his seem to be a bit dearer. I don't think you'll have any problems with specification or insurance. Motorpoint is far too big to sell you something dodgy. But the warranty is not the same as for one bought from a UK Honda dealer and you need to understand the details of that.
