Legality of international warranties
In June 2007 I Purchased a new Ford Focus 1.6 Diesel CVT Automatic from Ford Cyprus with a five year mechanical warranty.
Now, 4.5 years and 5700Km later, I am experiencing a gear box bearing noise, and have been told that the bearings are on their way out and it will probably be a new gear box at the cost of £3600.
I approached the local UK Ford main dealer as to a warranty claim and was told Ford don’t do five year Warranties and they referred me to Ford Customer Relations who would look into the matter.
Customer Relations came back saying that they could not find anything on their database relating to a five year warranty for my car, so therefore couldn’t help.
They suggested that this must be a local dealers warranty applicable only to Cyprus, and my redress should be to Ford Cyprus. Somehow I get the impression that they are 'passing the buck' and dodging the issue.
I have emailed Ford Cyprus and I still awaiting a reply, but I don’t hold much hope.

You have no claim against Ford in the UK because you did not buy the car from Ford in the UK. You bought it (directly or indirectly) from a dealer in Cyprus. Your only claim in UK law would be against the dealer in Cyprus. I cannot tell you what Greek law applies.
