Where can we insure our 17-year-old daughter's Mini One cheaply?
We recently purchased a 2002 Mini One for my daughter who will soon be 17. In general, for her first insurance, where would you suggest going without a rip-off premium and, in particular, are there any specifics that will reduce her premium whilst improving her skills (i.e. extra training, or in car driving skill monitors etc)? A friend suggested insuring it ourselves and having extra "top up" cover for my daughter from a company called Marmalade - I'm not sure if you've heard of them or have a view?

Ignore the friend's advice. That is called 'fronting' and could invalidate the insurance. By all means insure in her name and put yourselves on the policy because that will reduce the premium. Also consider a telematics 'black box' insurance (as offered by Marmalade) that bases premiums on recorded driver behaviour at the end of this links directory: www.honestjohn.co.uk/useful-websites/tax-insurance.../
Further driver training courses (including one run by Mini) here: www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/young-driver-training/. She can start before her 17th birthday.
