We're pleased with the performance of winter tyres on our Skoda Octavia.

At the end of this October my wife and I drove to Stockholm to visit our daughter. I panicked about possible bad weather conditions a couple of days before we set off, so had two new tyres fitted to the front, even though the fronts had 5mm tread and the rears (Avons) nearly 6mm. The tyre depot manager recommended Bridgestone A001 ‘all weather’ tyres. Glad he did. We hit snow not long after entering Sweden and our car, a 2008 Octavia 1.9TDI estate, coped wonderfully. Our traction control light did not illuminate once. We did 2500 miles, mostly on motorways cruising at 70-75mph.

A001s are not ‘Winter Tyres’, they are 'all weather' tyres, a compromise between standard 'summer' tyres and winter tyres. But if you have them on one end you should have them on the other end as well for safety, or you could find the back overtaking the front while descending a hill. They can stay on all year round.
