Can you recommend a car with easy access for my mother, who's just had a knee operation?

What would you recommend for my mother who has just had a knee op and has trouble lifting her legs up over a ledge to get into a car. My wife's Scenic is ideal in this respect, but is too big for my mother. Price up to £6000. Must be automatic and have air conditioning. She only does 3000 miles per year, so high mileage is not a problem. Size no bigger than current Rover 25.

We'd suggest looking at a Ford Fusion or a Honda Jazz. Both are versatile small cars (no bigger than a Rover 25) but have easy access and a slightly higher driving position similar to a small MPV. For your budget there's plenty of choice of models that have an automatic gearbox and air conditioning. In the classifieds we've seen a 2005 Honda Jazz with 26,000 miles on the clock. The Jazz is extremely reliable and well built, plus it's cheap to run so is well worth checking out.
