Do I have to pay a French speeding ticket that’s backdated 15 months?
I have just this morning received a notice in the post of a fine for 375 EUROS for a speeding offence committed in the south of France 15 months ago.
The entire notice was in French so actually took me a while to work out what it was saying. I received this notification at my home address in the UK. The alleged offence was committed in a hire vehicle so assume the hire company passed on my details.
My question is the ticket valid given between the alleged offence and when I received any indication of any wrong doing (nearly a year and a half later). Also why is the fine so high? (375 EUROS).
I would also question the validity of the offence, clearly after over a year I have no recollection of the alleged incident in question so would want to contest this anyway. What should I do?

The ticket is valid, because it was sent to the hire company within the time limit. The fact it has taken longer to reach you is irrelevant.
Obviously if you want to contest it you had better be prepared to attend the relevant court in France and defend yourself.
It is supposed to have been sent to you in your own language. But nevertheless I'd pay.
