Motoring in France
I intended on having a motoring holiday in France but understand that my five year old Tomtom satnav might be illegal. It has fixed speed camera sites for UK installed but I'm not sure about France. If it does have speed camera sites stored for France is it illegal and if so what are the penalties?

You might be able to remove the display of fixed sited by disabling the POIs. Alternatively you might be able to get a download, but a 5 year old TomTom that has not been updated will be out of date by as much as 7 years and will be worse than useless in France that has undergone significant road building schemes over the past 7 years. Probably best to buy a new one.
