When should my warranty start?

I have put a £100 depost on a Volvo S40 2.0D S 4dr with Arnold Clark Motorstore, Oldbury branch. I was impressed by Volvo's safety features and the combined mpg of 48.8 for this 2.0ltr car.

I am also satisfied that the vehicle has been serviced by the Volvo main dealer yearly for the 3 years by one owner (VK10), despite 51,000 on the clock. I am paying £8669 plus £445 for the warranty and £289 for the Clark Servicing Plan.

What I am concerned about is the dealer stating that the Arnold Clark 2 year warranty plan product (£445.00) will commence after 2 months, the dealer being responsible for issues in this time.

Am I correct in understanding that the dealer is responsible for 6 months and therefore the warranty plan should commence after 6 months and not 2? If so, I should not buy the warranty now, rather in 6 months time when such liability is transferred to myself in the event of failure of any parts or mechanical failure?

I refer to Case Law (Rogers v Parrish 1987) whereby a time limit of 6 months on the time I may successfully reject a car and obtain a full refund.

Four months is £74.16 of the premium paid and 16% of the policy term of 24 months and as such, its better that the dealer is held responsible than me (the customer)!

No. The dealer is only responsible for 6 months for any fault that could have been present or developing on the date of sale, which is not quite the same thing as a warranty.
