Should I buy a petrol or diesel car?

After selling my BMW 5-Series I'm thinking of returning to a Golf-sized car and was thinking about a 1.6TDI Match Mk6, however I'm wary about buying a diesel. We only did about 8000 miles per year in the BMW and would not expect to do more than 10,000 in a Golf-sized car, plus we've been very happy with our 2003 Yaris 1.4. Is a petrol car a better bet?

Diesels with DPF, DMFs, and EGRs are best avoided. They only really make sense for fleets who run them to 60,000 miles over two or three years on minimum maintenance, then offload them to the general public before the problems start.

Comfortable and quiet on the move, enjoyable to drive. Nicely trimmed with great attention to detail. 1.4 TSI sweeter to drive than a diesel.
