Warranty doesn't cover Ford Ka faults - must we pursue the trader?
Two months ago my wife purchased a 2004 Ford Ka from a commercial seller. The car came with a 3-month RAC Warranty. In the meantime, the heater will not switch off and there is significant play in the steering, described as “slight freeplay” on the MoT which was issued the day before she collected the Ka. There are also two oil leaks. My wife has emailed and phoned the seller who has now left a message on his phone to say that "he has ceased trading". Can you please advise where we go re the 3-month warranty and the acute steering problem?

The faults were with the car before the warranty was taken out so the warranty does not apply. You have to pursue the trader who has ceased trading. He remains personally liable. The heater valve between the pipe from the engine and the heater matrix will have failed. This is very common on the Ka and Fiesta. Not hugely expensive to replace. The play could be due to a failing rack, which is another common problem with the Ka and that is expensive to fix.
