How do I ensure a car is kept off the road legally?

Having financially supported our daughter’s driving since she passed her test two years ago, her lack of work will result in us not paying to renew her road fund licence at the end of January. What are our obligations under the law? We are able to place her car off the public highway. Is this enough, or do we have to declare the status? Then what is the procedure for reinstating the vehicle back on the road once the tax is brought up to date?

There are not many jobs available for young people these days. You have to take the car right off the road and declare a SORN. Once you have done that you don't have to continuously insure the car. It's explained here, along with how to re-tax the car: www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/OwningAVehicle/Untax...8
