I'm really pleased with my Lexus IS 250, and I think it's superior to my old BMW 318i.
I was looking for the same thing as MH and was considering Audi, BMW and Mercedes, but I saw a nice Lexus IS 250 Multimedia going through unsold at BCA in November and took a closer look. So I decided it was in a good price range and called my friend at Wellside Motors in Scotland who said the same thing about fuel. I then bought it at the next auction.
It is a car of superb build and far more advanced design than the BMW 318i I had before. Whereas the BMW had plenty of developed faults despite a BMW FSH, this car seems perfect apart from really gulping fuel if you use the impressive power, but I get 33mpg driving with restraint on the same run from London to Brentwood that the BMW only managed 35mpg, and the car is in a different level of comfort. You would only get the 16-inch wheels on a low spec but they might ride better. So far the only thing wrong is the key battery running low. It's the best car I've had.

Another reader who switched to 16-inch wheels has managed to extract 48mpg on one run in his IS 250 auto, but usually managed about 40mpg. Still a great and underestimated car. Deserves this publicity and, if it works, the value of yours may go up a bit.
