Why are some drivers so opposed to being passed by filtering motorcyclists?
I am a motorcyclist who will always take the opportunity of filtering when it presents itself. This is part of the point of a motorcycle. When scything between lanes of traffic, one is in a state of high alert and operating on the basis that the traffic through which one is travelling is not aware of one’s presence or looking at what is going on round about. Furthermore, one also has to be ready for the occasional motorist who considers it his duty at the last minute, to block one’s path often in an overtly aggressive manner. There is some evidence that at least some motorists are becoming more aware of motorcycles and are prepared to make some allowance for them when they are not themselves able to make any progress.

I'm completely at one with you and I would refer anyone who disagrees to Rules 88 and 160 of The Highway Code. I would hope that whenever a car driver is about to be passed either side by a biker, he signals his awareness by switching his indicator to the opposite of the side he will be passed.
