Shooting sticks
I would welcome your advice on replacement tyres for my 2005 X - Trail. Presently it has Dunlop Grand Trek ST20 215/60 R17's fitted. These were on when I bought the car at 29,000 miles and I've since done 18,000 miles on them. No problems to date.
Most of my travelling is on-road, in the summer towing a caravan but across the winter/shooting season some off-road work: farm tracks and muddy lanes rather than fields so some decent grip is needed. Locally we don't have extremes of snow and ice much less than some places but needing four new tyres it would be helpful to know if there’s an alternative that gives a reasonable combination without moving to a full cold weather tyre, then reverting back in the spring.

Grandtreks seem to suit the X-Trail well and readers are reporting good tyre life so I would stick with them. Very important, though, that the wear on all four tyres is approximately the same, otherwise it confuses the four-wheel drive system.
