I purchased a Volkswagen Touran new from Dane Motor Company in Chester just under six years ago. The warranty has, of course, long since expired. Dane has serviced the vehicle for me. Recently the ESP warning light came on. I assumed that the warning light was faulty, in that the car was still handling normally. My MOT test certificate is shortly to expire and therefore, knowing that a faulty warning light now leads to a test failure, I booked the car in with Dane to fix the faulty light and carry out the MOT test. I was surprised to hear from Dane that the car needed a new ABS sensor and that the cost, including labour, would be about £700. I was even more surprised (and pleasantly so) when Dane informed me that they had been in touch with Volkswagen and that, even though the warranty had long since expired, the work would be carried out free of charge as a goodwill gesture.
