I fully recommend speed awareness courses.
I was recently caught on camera doing 38mph in a 30mph limit area. The police authority offered me a speed awareness course at £90 with zero points or a £60 fine with three points on my licence. I chose the course option. Excellent presentation, information given in a totally informative, non-autocratic way and I'm better for the experience - even after more than 50 years behind the wheel. I'd recommend the option every time.

So do I. I fully support speed awareness courses. But some of the nastier insurers are now asking for 'disclosure' of these and are using it to hike insurance premiums. The IAM is justifiably hopping mad about this because it discourages re-education of drivers to make them better and safer on the roads.
