A car for a couple in their 70s

We are in our 70s and would like a car with good visibility, economy and ease of accessibility. Most of the journeys are short local runs but once a month we drive a round trip of around 350 miles. We have family who live abroad and visit us with their two children under 6 years old and borrow our car once a year so would need room for them.

At present we have a Mercedes Benz C-Class diesel automatic which is 15 years old so would probably not have much part exchange value.

We would prefer another automatic but are prepared to consider other options. We have bought privately in the past and would consider doing so again but would like suggestions on what cars to be considering. We would have around £3000 to spend.
