Very cold weather noise

I have a 2002 2.5-litre AWD model. When winter comes, and we have some snow and ice, I have to park it up from my house on the side of the road, because of a steep driveway.

Until the weather warms up, I hear an oscillating noise coming from underneath the car or until I have driven for a while. I asked Jaguar last year and they said to bring in the car, by the time I can get to them (45mins away) the noise would have probably gone by then. I have thought of brake pads, transfer case or diff oil?

Without actually hearing the noise it is rather difficult to identify the problem. Also given that it disappears makes it even more difficult. It could well be the brake pads rubbing slightly against the discs when you first start off.
