Problem automatic gearbox in a 2004 Audi A4

I have an Audi A4 Avant 2.5 diesel Automatic, registered in 2004. It has done 157k miles. A couple of times over the last month, when I have selected Drive and when I pressed the accelerator to move away, it didn't!

I have increased the revs and this made no difference. I have tried selecting another gear and that didn't work either. Eventually I had to switch off the engine and re-start it again - this seemed to fix it.

It has happened a couple of times in Drive and a couple of times in Reverse. Also I have noticed occasionally that the dashboard display showing the individual gears has started to flash on and off, sometimes whilst the car is in motion, sometimes when it is stationary. In case you're wondering, I didn't notice if they were flashing when the car failed to move! I have had the gearbox flushed and refilled around 3 weeks ago but the problems persist.

Well given that you have changed the gearbox oil, we would suggest that maybe the gearbox ECU may have a fault.

It may be prudent to have a gearbox diagnostic check carried out in the first instance as this may identify the ECU and or something else.

If it is the gearbox ECU then these are repairable (rather than replacing).
