Penalised for reporting an incident to my insurer despite not making a claim.
My Insurer, LV has recorded an incident which I reported to them as a claim even though neither they or I have been contacted by the 3rd Party. The incident occurred in January 2012 and LV confirm they have closed their file and no payments have been made by or to either party.
Despite this, the incident has been recorded against my driving record and has resulted in an increase in my renewal premium.
I have written to LV pointing out that NO CLAIM HAS BEEN MADE but they have declined to remove the incident from my record and this has resulted in me changing insurer, losing protected bonus and having to pay more for renewal.
In your opinion, do you feel I should take this matter further via The Financial Ombudsman or will I be wasting my time?

Sorry, the fact is you reported a claim and that makes you a greater underwriting risk, which is why your premium has increased. If you had not reported it and LV found out the penalty would be far greater.
