Can I do this with Winter Tyres?

My Tyre Size is:

Front 215/40/R18
Rear 245/35/R18

I put Vredestein Wintrac Xtreme 225/40/R18 on the rear last year but want to put some of the same tyre on the front this year (because it's OK getting going but stopping was a bit hairy)

Can I put the same size on the front? ie 225/40/R18 without any problems. The tyre in question does not come any narrower in R18 and also the same size tyres all round would be handy to rotate to help with tread wear.

If you only put winter tyres on one end of the car you are an idiot. Of course it's going to be difficult to control. Must be on both ends. If the wheel rims are the same width front and back then no problem same size tyres front and back. But you have to tell your insurer.
