Downsizing wheels for winter on a Prius
My Toyota Prius T Spirit is fitted with 17" wheels. I am having great difficulty locating steel wheels to fit replacement winter tyres. I believe that the T3 and T4 are fitted with 16" wheels and thought that I could use that size on my car as they are more readily available and more economic, but Toyota says no. Is it because of the size of the brakes or can you think of any other reason for Toyota's objection?

No. The brakes are the same size on all Prius. No reason why not to go down to 16" wheels.
