Changing from a MINI Cooper S

Bought a MINI Cooper S 2007 in Feb 2011. Worst car ever along with awful MINI dealership, never again. Will try and sell privately in Northern Ireland as have lost out majorly on devaluation. Previously had 2 mark 3 golfs and sold Mazda MX5 for MINI as it was bad in winter with snow but loved the mx5 mark 2 (had 2!).

Dilema - return to MX5 mark 2 with winter tyres and put up with lack of space and likely unable to drive on bad winter day (I now live at bottom of small but steep hill to get out of my village), or get sensible car again like Golf mk5?

Happy to forget speed essentially and budget is an issue now as I spent £11k on MINI and now worth 6 if lucky. Do I go for something like Nissan Juke, Audi A3 convertable , good old 1.8 Golf or is there something else out there for sensible budget? 4 decent seats, economical (bearing in mind I do get 37 to gallon with my MINI), will survive in winter?

On the flip side the MX5 with winter tyres - will that work and compromise the space for that perfect sports car which is cheap to run and easy to service?

MX5s will start getting cheaper as the summer ends. An 07 Cooper S with less than 55k miles on the clock should be worth at least £6,250. Maybe as much as £7,000. Mazda 2 1.3TS32s and old shape Suzuki Swift 1.5GLXs are just as good to drive. Jukes and A3 convertibles are still still quite dear, and Juke 1.6 2WDs aren't a great drive. 1.5 diesels are okay. 1.6DIG-Ts good, but only the top CVT auto comes with 4WD.

We are buying a second hand Golf as a second car due to expanding family. We don't do many miles so need a petrol. We are deciding between a 122 TSI or 160 GT TSI (both Mk 6). Do you have any opinion?...

Outstanding handling. Outrageous fun.
Comfortable and quiet on the move, enjoyable to drive. Nicely trimmed with great attention to detail. 1.4 TSI sweeter to drive than a diesel.
