Car not as described - missing history.

Two months ago, I bought a 2nd hand Jaguar XJ6 and was told it had a FSH but the Service Record booklet was "missing" and a photostat for the first few services was supplied. He said he would retrieve the Service Record but, subsequently, the previous owner told me he didn't have one and he only had one service in 2 and-a-half years. Other manuals were also missing and it was supposed to have had a servive before selling but he has not sent the receipt. I am claiming for a new set of manuals, aJaguar service, the lower wishbone needs replacing and compensation for lack of FSH - totalling £1637. If he refuses to pay, should I go to the small claims court?

If you bought it from a trader, yes. If you bought it from a private individual you can only attempt to sue for breach of contract and it will be much more difficult.
